Time and Distance - General Questions

Page Title 11. Had a man walked at 14 km/h instead of 10 km/h, he would have covered 20 km more. The actual distance covered by him is:
45 km
50 km
60 km
55 km
Answer: option B

Let the actual distance travelled be X km.

Then, X/10 = X + 20/14

⟹ 14x = 10x + 200r

⟹ 4x = 200

⟹ x = 50 km.

12. A train can travel 50% faster than a bus. Both start from point A at the same time and reach point B at a distance of 75 km from point A at the same time. However, the train lost around 12.5 minutes while stopping at stations on the way. The speed of the bus is:
127 kmph
114 kmph
130 kmph
120 kmph

Answer: option D

Let speed of the bus be X kmph.

Then, speed of the train = (150/100 X) = (3/2 X) km/hr.

∵ 75/X - 75/(3/2)X = 125/10 x 60

⟹ 75/X - 50/X = 5/24

⟹ X = (25 x 24/5) = 120 km/hr.
